Outdoor Art Studio

At Gathered We Grow, we believe in a dynamic, living education full of rich, natural beauty.  And that includes art! But we also know that art can land on the back burner. We believe an integral part of learning is through re-creation – whether that be through narration and the art of forming words and retelling a story or through art. When a student creates or re-creates an image or idea through art, they transfer that concept from their short-term memory to their long-term memory. Art is an incredibly valuable educational tool for learning acquisition. With the skills learned through our courses, students will build confidence in eventually creating self-directed art using a multitude of mediums that they will be able to further carry with them into their life of education.

Take a moment to think back…can you remember an art project you did in school all those years ago? I’m guessing at least a few come to mind! Our desire is to encourage and, for some, re-introduce art as a key educational tool.

We get it – art is messy! And we realize many home educated students may not enjoy much of an art or art history education. Who really wants that all over the kitchen table?   • Below is a list of the courses offered. Nature & Natural Fiber Art are ever changing! Art 1-4 are meant to be taken in order over the course of a school year.

  • Students will work with dried flowers, leaves, and other organic materials as well as paper mache, clay & yarn to create numerous nature inspired projects.

  • This is a 4 week course offered over a year that includes a project that goes along with the season - fall, winter, spring and summer!

  • This 4 week course focuses on teaching the fundamentals of art. We will learn to observe and study Natural subjects and recreate them utilizing the fundamentals of art: line, shape, color, value, texture, form, and space. We will study and create projects based on subjects found in the natural world.

  • This 8-week course focuses on utilizing different art mediums such as watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and colored pencil to re-create subjects found in nature.

  • This 4 week course focuses on observing and studying iconic paintings throughout history. Utilizing the students’ fundamental art knowledge and experience with mixed media, students will then recreate a famous art work piece with their own unique flair and style.

  • Based on students' previously gained knowledge, students will explore abstract art, self portraiture, print making, and more...

The Studio

Our intimate outdoor studio is located in Lakeside, CA. Because we desire a more hands on, personal approach to art, our class sizes are limited to 6 students a session. I love getting to know the unique personalities and style of each student and a small class size allows me to do so! But this means space is very limited.

Not every course is available each semester, so please reach out with your favorites and we will add them to the next available line up. Each individual class is $40 or $160 per course, plus a $50 material fee that covers the entire course. Most sessions include 4-8 classes and are 1 hour each with 15 minutes of clean up time. Other Teaching Opportunities…

The people pleaser in me would love to be able to do all the things for all the people. I’d love to take your pictures, I’d love to host your group, I’d love to bake your bread, I’d love to do all your messy DIY’s. But in reality, I just don’t have the time no matter how much I want to! You see, I’m just one really normal mom with a handful of really normal kids and a whole lot of fun hobbies turned business opportunities up my sleeve. I’ve figured out how to do these things I love and I would love to share with you how YOU can do them, too. So, what I can do is cheer you on, support you, and show you what I’ve done so you can, too!

  • Projects include nature based supplies & themes that you and your children can do seasonally for years to come - or come back next year for more! ;)

This is also geared toward mothers who just want to take timeless photos of their family and children other than the one time a year you hire out for your Christmas card photos!   • Need real-time advice and ideas on how to run a girls group, book club, co-op, etc. With over 5 years of experience running “all the things,” I’ve learned a thing or two and would love to meet with you, talk over the phone, or zoom in to brainstorm ideas with you. Sometimes it just takes bouncing ideas off each other!
